My Malta experience
Malta is an island of big contrasts. On the one hand, there are beautiful medieval churches, houses and palaces and very beautiful scenic sites. On the other hand, it is very densely populated. Additionally, there are thousands of tourists who need accommodation. Therefore you find many big and ugly modern hotels and apartment houses along the coast. Sandy beaches are rather scarce, most beaches are rocky. That is why, of course, the few sandy beaches are very crowded in the summer. Thus, Malta might not be the ideal place for a relaxing holiday on the beach. However, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars for those who like a more lively holiday. You can go on all kinds of boat trips, take diving or snorkelling lessons or go on sightseeing trips of Malta or Gozo with hop on hop of buses. But don't forget your hat, suncream and plenty of water on those trips, because in summer it is very dry and hot in Malta.
One big advantage of Malta as a holiday destination is that almost everybody there speaks English, and you don't need to worry about exchanging money, because they have the Euro there. You neither need to worry about transport, since there is a good bus connection, also in the evening. But don't trust the bus schedules too much, the buses might be late or they might even leave 10 minutes early, so that you miss it and have to wait for the next bus in the merciless heat!
