The climate on Malta
Malta‘s weather and climate are strongly influenced by the Mediterranean Sea, similar to that found in southern Italy or southern Greece. The summers are hot and dry, autumns warm and sometimes wet, winter is short and cool with some rainfall. Nearly three-fourths of the total rainfall per year (ca. 600 mm) falls between October and March; June, July, and August are normally very dry.
The temperature is very stable, the annual mean being 18℃ and the monthly averages ranging from 12℃ to 31℃. It is usually mild in Malta during the winter, with plenty of sunshine and with daytime temperatures usually 15℃-20℃. Daytime winter temperatures almost never fall below 10℃, while night-time winter temperatures never fall below 0℃. Therefore, snow never falls in Malta.
July and August are Malta’s hottest months with daytime temperatures usually above 30℃ and quite often also above 35℃. The highest ever was in August 1999: 44℃ (in the shade!).
There is plenty of sunshine in Malta, with an average of five to six hours of sunshine a day in midwinter and over twelve hours a day in mid-summer.
Winds are strong and frequent. There might be gales and thunderstorms that bring most of the rain during autumn and winter. The relative humidity is usually high and rarely falls below 40%.
